Apple Watch Series 6 will be able to measure blood oxygen level

Apple Watch Series 6 will include blood oxygen monitoring among its features as revealed by DigiTimes media in a new report.

This is not the first time the inclusion of a blood oxygen meter has been claimed in Apple’s next generation of smartwatches. In the iOS 14 filtered code prior to its june release, there were already indications suggesting that Apple was working on a feature like this for the Apple Watch.

As far as we know, the watch will report when oxygen levels fall below the threshold considered healthy, which are between 95 and 100% saturation. Below this limit, falling oxygen in the blood can lead to serious breathing and heart problems.

It’s not confirmed news.

It is not known whether this new feature will be exclusive to the next Apple Watch model or whether it will be extended to previous models through a system update, but for the time being the DigiTimes report suggests that it will be a unique feature of the next model.

Already at the launch of the original Apple Watch, from the iFixit medium they confirmed that the heart sensor of the Apple Watch was able to measure the level of oxygen in the blood. However, 5 years later Apple has not yet activated this feature on its device.

Currently, other competing brands such as Fitbit, now part of Google’s conglomerate, already offer this feature among their devices, so Apple is lagging behind in this regard. In any case, having how Apple is used to doing things, if the Apple Watch Series 6 actually includes this feature, it will surely do so with a much more advanced implementation than the competition.

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 6 will focus its improvements on higher performance, better sealing against inclement weather and water, and better connections for both Wi-Fi and LTE connections. All these improvements can be possible in part thanks to the implementation of a new flexible material for the circuit board of the device that will be released in this model, as Ming-Chi Kuo noted in the past.
